Celebrate Easter in Enniscorthy – 5 Fun Family Easter Activities

With schools on break, brighter evenings returning, and spring in full bloom, Easter is the perfect chance to enjoy some memorable days out with family and friends. Whether you are entertaining little ones, looking for something educational, or simply hoping to make the most of Easter, Enniscorthy and the surrounding areas have plenty to offer and we have gathered our team’s top five Easter picks to give you inspiration for your days out.

1. The 1916 Easter Rising in Enniscorthy – Enniscorthy Castle

For those interested in local heritage and Irish history, Enniscorthy Castle is hosting a special event that offers both insight and reflection. On Sunday, 5 April at 2 pm, the castle will present a compelling talk marking the 110th anniversary of the 1916 Easter Rising, focusing specifically on Enniscorthy’s remarkable role in this defining chapter of Irish history.

This unique presentation will explore how Enniscorthy became one of the most significant regional centres of activity during the Rising. Visitors will learn more about the determination and bravery shown by local leaders and volunteers, as well as the impact the rebellion had on the town and wider county. The talk also looks at the aftermath of the uprising and the fact that Enniscorthy was the last area in Ireland to surrender, securing its place in the historical record.

Set within the atmospheric surroundings of Enniscorthy Castle, this event offers a meaningful way to spend part of the Easter weekend. It is ideal for adults, older children, and anyone with an interest in Irish history, local culture, or commemorative events. Places are limited, so booking in advance is strongly recommended.

2. Easter Eggstravaganza – Blackwater Open Farm

If your Easter plans involve energetic children, fresh air, and plenty of outdoor fun, then Blackwater Open Farm should be high on your list. Their ever-popular Easter Eggstravaganza promises a full day of family entertainment in a lively and welcoming farm setting.

Open daily throughout the Easter holidays from 10.30 am to 5 pm, the farm gives children the chance to explore the farm, meet the animals, and enjoy all the usual attractions, while also taking part in the extra Easter-themed excitement. One of the main highlights is the clue-based Easter egg hunt, where young visitors can follow hints and solve clues in search of hidden eggs and prizes.

The egg hunt which is included in the admission price, takes place every hour from 12 noon to 3 pm on Saturday and Sunday, adding a sense of adventure and anticipation, along with face painting, making it excellent value for families.

Blackwater Open Farm is always a favourite with younger children, thanks to its mix of animals, open spaces, and interactive attractions. It is a great choice if you are hoping to tire out the kids & burn off some of the Easter chocolate.

3. Magic and Fairy Tales at Wells House & Gardens

For a more enchanting Easter adventure, a visit to Wells House & Gardens offers a beautiful mix of imagination, outdoor exploration, and family fun. This much-loved destination has added a magical seasonal twist to its grounds with a specially designed Easter fairy-themed treasure hunt, making it an ideal outing for children who love stories, fantasy, and a touch of wonder.

This year, the venue has completely refurbished its wooden walkway, creating the perfect setting for a charming Easter trail through the grounds. Families can wander through the beautifully maintained gardens while children follow clues and discover hidden fairy-themed surprises along the way. The treasure hunt takes place over the Easter weekend, bringing an extra sense of adventure to one of Wexford’s most picturesque family attractions.

Children who complete the challenge in the terraced gardens will be rewarded with a delicious chocolate egg from the Easter Bunny.  For younger visitors, the fun continues with Little Bo Peep’s train ride, where children can join in the search for her missing sheep adding another playful layer to their Easter experience.

Wells House & Gardens is especially appealing for families who want to combine Easter entertainment with a relaxed and scenic day out. The grounds provide plenty of room to stroll, play, and take in the fresh spring feeling, while the themed activities add a memorable sense of magic for children.
